With plenty of opportunities for picture taking, this outdoor workshop challenges the student to think and shoot outside the box. Students will be lead through their camera's semi-automatic and manual shooting modes with the goals of understanding and then realizing the creative possibilities waiting for them. Throughout the workshop students will have the chance to begin developing their own shooting style and artistic flair within a number of different urban photographic scenarios.
Course Outline:
- Making extensive use of creative shooting modes (aperture & shutter priority modes)
- Exploring various creative uses of depth of field
- Practicing the creative, yet controlled use of motion blur and panning.
- Exploring story-telling through images.
- Selecting the right lens to achieve the ideal composition

Who Should Attend?
This workshop provides an ideal opportunity for aspiring photographers to practice thinking and shooting creatively in urban environments. Students wishing to discover and learn the possibilities beyond the 'automatic norm' will thoroughly enjoy participating in this seasonal event workshop. Attending participants should have a basic understanding of the camera and menu system as well as an understanding of the concept of exposure.
What To Bring To Class:
- A DSLR
- A fully charged battery (or two)
- Enough memory to store at least 400 images
- A set of lenses covering both wide angle and telephoto ranges (or a single lens with an 'all-in-one' focal length range - ex: 18mm-200mm)
- An external flash (if available)
- Accessories such as filters & a tripod (if available)

The meeting point for this workshop will be at Confederation Square, in front of the War Memorial, which is located on Wellington street, corner Elgin St.
Instructors Younes Bounhar and Amanda Large will lead you through a route in the downtown core that will provide you numerous photographic opportunities and a chance to see Ottawa in a new light.
