Out & About in St John's

Hosted in picturesque downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, this outdoor photo workshop challenges aspiring photographers to think and shoot beyond their camera's automatic 'correct' exposure settings. Students will be lead through their camera's advanced shooting modes with the goal of both understanding and realizing the creative possibilities associated to those modes. Students will also be introduced to various concepts associated to the 'art' of seeing photographically. Attention will be given to the quality and direction of light as well as what can be done to achieve more effective composition, including how to completely change the feel and perspective on your subject.

Course Outline:

- Putting to use the advanced shooting modes of your camera
- Exploring depth of field changes for a more effective way to draw attention to your subject
- Using varying shutter speeds to creatively change the way motion is captured
- Understanding how light and colour play a primary role in shaping your photographs, how the camera sees them and understanding why getting a better picture sometimes means coming back at a different time of day
- Discovering the varying characteristics of perspective and how to change them with the interplay between your lens and where you are in relation to your subject

and more...

(Note: each of these sessions is specially crafted by each photographer to include their own experiences and advice. Expect subjects to be covered that are not mentioned here!)
