Henry's in Newmarket is the best! I would like to thank Quyen for all that he has done, very knowledgable and fun, and thank you for recommending this DSLR 101 course. I have had my camera now for almost 2 years and never came close to using it to its full ability. Actually, I was quite afraid of hitting a wrong button and strayed from playing with it in fear of doing something wrong and not being able to get it back to the way it was. I even had Quyen set my camera for my son's hockey games. Long story short, on January 20, 2012, I took the course. Martin was amazing! He made it so easy with his examples and hands on learning and was clear with his explanations. He made a point of going to everyone individually and making sure they knew how and what they were doing. I am now registered in DSLR 201 and can't wait. Congratulations Newmarket on a job well done! You should be proud!

  • Now I know how to use my camera without leaving it on Auto!

I recently picked up a Canon Rebel T3i and was overwhelmed by the amount of buttons and functions. After a few weeks of shooting in auto only I registered for the Oakville class and am extremely happy that I did. I now feel confident and comfortable using most of the features of my new camera. The class size was intimate (8 people) and the instructor Danielle was not only very knowledgeable, but also very open to all of our questions and made sure that all of use were understanding everything that was being presented. I just downloaded the workshop notes as they will be a great way to refresh my memory as I play with my camera from here on in. Can't wait to take the DSLR 2 course soon.

A few people recommended this course to me but I wasn't sure I needed it. So glad I went! I was amazed at how quickly the 3 hours went by. Just about everything was useful for me. I could use my camera before but wasn't taking advantage of many benefits. The instructor, Kylie, was great. Downloading the course PDF was easy. Makes me look forward to the next course.

  • Very informative!

Like Jen, I was skeptical of my need for the class, being familiar with Canon point and shoots but thought a course couldn't hurt but now I realize, I barely scratched the surface of photography, and this was an excellent starter, from understanding the various controls to intro to photo basics, I can already see how my photos have improved - can't wait for part 2!

I've never owned a (D)SLR but have owned plenty of Canon Point and Shoots and actually thought twice about needing a beginngers class for my T2i that I recently got as a gift. I thought wrong. Within the first 15 mins I had already benefitted from the class. The instructor was efficient, the lessons were straight forward and I left feeling confident and not at all overwhelemed. Very much looking forward to my Canon Part 2 class. Had no problems downloading the notes either.

This course is an absolute must if you have purchased your first DSLR! I cannot say enough about how wonderful this course was. The knowledge you gain is amazing. The class is set up so that it is hands-on, yet no one is singled out, and everyone is a "newbie". Best of all, it is fun!!!

  • Get the most out of your camera

I had my camera for about a year when I took this. While I'd shot 35 mm before (Canon T70), I had not ventured too far of the program modes with my DLSR. Easy to follow and well delivered; I took part 1 and 2. This really gets you comfortable with your camera, with the different modes, and with the menus and buttons. Well worth the $75.00 (actually got two for one when booking at the Imaging Show.

  • Well worth it

I bought the Canon T2i over the holidays, first time owning a DSLR. I'd been more "into" photography 20yrs ago but decided to take this as part refresher and part intro to specific features of my camera. I'd say it was mostly review for me as a lot of the content was very introductory but I picked up 4 or 5 specific things that I didn't know and have put into use already. I'm glad I went, it was worth it! The only feedback I have is the presenter tried too hard to not be too technical but when he describes the aperture as "how big the hole is in the lens", he's gone a bit too far! Take a minute to explain the aperture concept, instead of calling it "the hole"!

Was my first time taking a class at Henry's. I did enjoy the 3hrs, it was very informative. The instructor made the class fun, answered all questions, was very helpful and full of knowledge. Because it was only 3hrs long, only the basics could be covered. It is a good place to start to become familiar with your new DSLR.

  • Canon Rebel Part 1

The class was very interesting and informative, I learned a few new things about my camera. Downloading the notes from the class was very difficult and at the time of me writing this I still haven't been able to. I called the location and got an answering machine (during business hours) and I called the 1-800 number and the lines were all busy. Should be hassle free but it's not.

  • Disappointed

I took the DLSR Part 1 course last evening to learn how to use a newly purchased Rebel Ti3. Let me tell you I am a DSLR rookie and rally needed this course to help me with my new camera. I understood the class was to learn how to use THIS camera. However I believe I was the only person in the class with the Ti3. The real problem however was a person in the class with a very old version of a Canon DSLR which was not compatible with the course slides. The instructor spent so much time helping this person relate that the class overran 30 minuts to 9pm and there was still insufficient time to properly go over exposure compensation and ISO settings....2 important features according to the instructor. I did learn a lot about the camera but left the class wanting for more information.

  • Was good but........

I am new to SLR photography (used a point and shoot camera for years) and the course was good and imformative but: A roll call should have been held between students (i.e instructor asks every student their name, how much experience they have and what they expect to gain of out the course). No real mention about shutter speeds, aperture and a brief overview on ISO. I still don't know what these terms mean, so I will go on and look this stuff up myself on the web. I think the course could have been a hour longer and concentrated on these features. There did not seem to be any drinking facilities there either....if I had known, I would have brought my own. A list of what is provided on the course displayed on the website would have been nice (e.g. bring a notepad, drinks, etc). Maybe a suggestion for the future...... The instructor had good experience, but seemed a bit clumsy with the Canon menus and some of the class had to tell him what some of the menus did! I wish there were tables within the training room, the room seemed a bit too informal for me, but that is my opinion and this just stemed from other training courses that I have attended over several years. I did ask lots of questions at the end of the course, and the instructor was very good about this, and did not kick anyone out. A good course as this gets over the fear of using the camera (like me!!) and the instructor was very good at making people feel at ease, and did not make any feel stupid when they asked a question. Thank you Henry's!!
